Difference between Short Term and Long Term Rentals in Belize

I've seen a lot of posts about renting in Belize lately. Here's some background information on the difference between short and long term rentals that may be helpful for those new to the area:

"Short Term" rentals are considered Vacation Rentals in Belize, even if you plan to stay for several months. These must be registered with the Belize Tourism Board and proprietors are required by law to assess a 9% tax on the rental.

"Long Term" rentals are considered Residential Rentals. Agreements are for a minimum of 6 months, but many places prefer annual contracts.
