Retire in China

20 years ago
I have spent 3 years working in China and I have married a Chinese citizen and we would like to retire in China is that possible? I have spoken with some Chinese folks who have told me that I can get a visa for 3 years as a US citizen with a Chinese wife but the folks at the visa office have told me that they would only give me a 6 month visa? Does anyone have some first hand experience with this?
