Moving to China from USA

My husband will be moving to Zhangjigong for 6 months before we join him and move to Shanghai. My question is how far from any american type restraunts will he be? What should he bring with him that he won't be able to find there, and what kind of housing is available to him. Are there any expate communities near him?
