shanghai schools

Moving to Shanghai from Australia 2008. 2 children age 8 and 14. Older child has option to stay in Australia and board at his existing school but he is not keen. Both will be impacted by the different calendar ie they will have completed years 3 and 9 this end but will be arriving mid school year. Anyone out there with experience of this and how you got round it? Do they have to repeat 6months or catch up 6months?? Recommended schools?
