Electricity in Beijing

I'm moving from the US to Beijing. For anyone who lives there, I was wondering if I can plug a powerstrip into a transformer into a converter into a socket there or if I'll blow up the building or something. I'd like to use a powerstrip for my computer, battery charger, etc, in case there's a power surge so they don't get fried. Please advise.
