TeleAmazonas - Significant Update

The link to the best coverage is, again, in Spanish, with El Universo winning the day, again, today. Here is the link for attribution: http://www.eluniverso.com/2009/09/06/1/1355/correa-cambia-pedido-contra-canal.html?p=1355&m=861 .

The gist - I strongly applaud President Correa for acting prudently in respecting the laws and withdrawing his request for the closure of TeleAmazonas. Citing legal constraints recently brought to his attention, Correa has rescinded his original request to close TeleAmazonas and has instead acted consistently within Ecuadorian law by requesting the maximum 90-day suspension of TeleAmazonas operations. This is a punishment much more befitting the allegations and, imo, much more consistent with a respect of existing Ecuadorian law. Hardly the actions of a "frothing at the mouth dictator" that some would broadly paint Correa. Kudos for his prudence...and...an excellent example why we should take sensationalist allegations and broad-based assertions with a huge grain of salt. Sometimes...it is prudent to be patient and await the *facts*.
