My wife (who is fluent in Spanish) and I are considering Quito or Cuenca as a place to retire. Climate is very important to us. In the US we live in a high desert climate with moderate temps, snow in the winter, but humidity never higher than 40%. In our research we have noted that the humidity levels in Quito and Cuenca average 75%. What we want to know are the climates in Quito and Cuenca humid even though they have temperate weather in the 70s? 75% humidity levels strikes us as very high in comparison to our dry climate at 40%. We do not want to live in a climate where we are sweating all the time like we do when we lived in the Ohio Valley during our pre-retirement years. It is noted in the retirement literature for Ecuador that in the mountains you do not need air conditioning. Are you truly comfortable without A/C in 75% humidity? Thank you for any help or insight you can shed on this matter.
