Retiree Visa

I am planning of moving to Ecuador next spring. I've read in different publications that it order to qualify for a retiree visa all you need to do is show the that at least $400/month have to be transferred to your account in Ecuador. I am planning on getting as much as I can done while still in the US. My son just got married to his Ecuadorian girlfriend, so I have a good impression of what I can look forward to in terms of paperwork. Questions emailed to the Ecuadorian embassy resulted in nothing.

Has anyone here done this successfully? I know that the sequence in which you take the required steps is important. Not sure where to get started.

Anybody with helpful hints or a link to useful real life information?

Than you in advance!
