Scouting trip

We are looking to split our retirement time between our Montana home (summer) and a warmer climate in winter. We are considering a permanent move later if the fit is good for us. Ecuador looks attractive for a number of reasons that I've read about here in the blogs.
We're planning a 2-4 week scouting trip in Sept 2022. We'd like to sample the range of available climates and living arrangements available in the different regions. We would appreciate spending some time with experienced expats and locals to get their insights .
Any advice from expats about organizing such a trip?
