TRAVELLING THROUGH ECUADOR.

My wife and I are considering retiring to Ecuador and will be traveling through the country July to October to familiarize ourselves with this obviously beautiful country. Our route will be Guayaquil to Vilcabamba to Loja to Salinas, to Esmeraldas to Cotacachi ending in Quito for our outgoing flight. We are considering whether to rent a car or travel by bus. We are open to traveling with another couple and are asking for advice on how best to do this journey.
