50?year?old veteran and former PMC here, currently based in the US but looking hard at relocating overseas — Ecuador, Cambodia, the Philippines, and similar places with real jungles, good fauna, and a slower pace of life.
I’ve worked with venomous snakes, tarantulas, and other wildlife most of my life, so I naturally gravitate toward countries with biodiversity, forests, and coastlines. I’m at a point where I want a relaxed environment, far away from the political noise, tension, and constant pressure cooker the US has turned into. A place where the cost of living is fair, the people are decent, and the culture has some depth — food, history, values, all of it.
I’ve been around the world, including places most folks wouldn’t step foot in, and honestly found that life overseas was usually calmer and people were more respectful. If you respect their culture, they usually give it right back. That’s the kind of environment I’m looking to settle into long?term.
I travel with dogs, so pet?friendly countries matter. I’m also looking for somewhere with reasonable healthcare access, good food, and a community that’s laid?back but not dead.
