I am an American retiree presently living in Germany, but want to move someplace that is less expensive and has warmer weather. I have narrowed my choices down to Crete and Cyprus, but have specific questions I need to have answered before I make my decision.
1. Average range of costs for a 2BR (3 room) apt in Chania with parking NOT on beach
2. Average utility costs
What kind of fuel is used for heating and cooking
3. Is it difficult to find an apartment on the ground floor with few or no steps?
4. Can you find someone to clean house and do ironing? If so, what is the approximate cost?
5. Are international foods available, i.e. Asian, Mexican? What about the quality and type of restaurants?
6. Does this area have an expat retiree community and if so, what are their main countries of origin and are there organizations for them?
7. Average cost of a 6-8 year old used car? Can you drive with your original foreign driver's license?
8. What are the advantages of living there as compared to other areas in southern Europe?
