Copán to Santa Ana El Salvador

Google suggests a travel route through Guatemala to get from Copán to Santa Ana (el Salvador). My gut would say why do 2 border crossings instead of one. If anyone has experience with the route options, I’d appreciate some advice. We are traveling with a Costa Rican plated vehicle of our own (which often complicates border crossings). Thank you!
