Is India still cheap to live in for an expat family? Furniture making?

My husband works online so can live anywhere. We are considering moving to India. Probably West India by the best surf we can find. How much do you think it would cost per month for myself, my husband and my daughter who is 2? Also, do you think it's safe for a toddler? Does anyone know where there there is a furniture making place I might get lessons? Very random stuff. Thanks for any help.
