Permanent residence visa versus temp?

I will contact the nearest consulate in time but for now I would like hear from anyone who might have current basic knowledge on this subject.
The fees for a family for a temporary residence VISA add up to a fair amount for a family, but I could not find the fees for permanent residence visa. Does anyone know what those are for a Canadian? Also, I noticed the income requirements for temp versus permanent VISA's are different, but the income for permanent referred to Retirees or Pensioners. Can I apply for permanent residency with verification of my 'salary' with a Canadian business? And the dollar amount required is $2941.00. Does this include my family?
