I found that a really great alternative to being a standard tenant is to become a property guardian. You are charged a monthly fee that is substantially less than your average month's rent (particularly in London - where I have been living) and get to live in really cool buildings in areas that would otherwise be a lot more expensive. My boyfriend was living in a building that used to be a police station, followed by another very central location that was once a publishing house. I myself was living in a lovely two-bedroom flat in a very popular area in north London which I very much enjoyed. I would thoroughly recommend Oaksure as the best company to do this with, as they are much more trustworthy and efficient than other companies offering the same solution to the often expensive rent charged in London and other big cities!
