Ireland vs UK

How does Ne England compare to Scotland? I originally wanted to move to Scotland due to being politically left and reported as relatively safe for LGBTQ+ people, but the path to citizenship is faster in England, so I am considering moving to Newport or around York. I would love to live in or close to a rural area, and the colder, wetter, and foggier, the better. I need to make sure that my LGBTQ+ family will be safe, and that I can find work in a town big enough to have a need for a psychologist/therapist/counselor. Here in the states if you are in rural areas and are LGBTQ+ (or stand out in other ways) you would certainly be in danger, also women are often treated as lesser. I am trying to remove my family from this.
Any advice for England, especially in the North?

Thank you!
