Parent's Review of Dulwich College Beijing in Beijing
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Dulwich College Beijing
In what town or city is this school located?
Beijing
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
British
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Pre-K to Year 11, going to Years 12 and 13 in 2008-9
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
School bus and private transportation
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The facilites are good - it is a new campus and my impression is that a lot has been put in place already for a school that has only been open three years. There is an extra curriculur programme.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
I do not have experience of this as we joined the school while living in Beijing
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Yes there are, and there are opportunities during the year for parents to join in e.g. Bonfire Night
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
My main interest has been in special needs education, particularly for a child with autism. Dulwich took over the independent school at the end of last year and are working on integration within the mainstream school. There is considerable good will and enthusiasm to include these children in the school, and the administration are taking the initiative seriously and putting time and effort into the longer term planning for this.

guestUnfortunately, Dulwich College Beijing does not really want children with additional or special needs. If your child has additional or special needs look somewhere else!
guestI also have a special needs child and DULWICH COLLEGE BEIJING is NOT the school for children with additional needs. I have been bitterly disappointed with the lack of monitoring by management and the lack of flexibilty within the school regime. Stay away!
guestExpectations from the read-up on the website are, unfortunately, not reality. If you are considering this school dig deep and speak to parents. The philosophy statement is fantastic but again only for show. Problems raised at parent meetings over 2 years ago have not been resolved and realistically, are not going to be resolved. I very disappointing, and at times frustrating experience. Could not recommend.
guestI have looked around the school and it looks fantastic. Thanks for the heads up on digging a bit deeper. I did talk to a parent in the coffee shop and they were a bit evasive about their feelings toward the school. I got the impression that the staff turn over is going to be very high this year. Could not put my finger on it but something at Dulwich was not quite right. Finding the right school is a mindfield! So far WAB seems to have a happier parent body.
guestI am also interested in moving my children to DCB but just heard that they are losing key staff: Head of early years Head of senior school Head of english in senior school Head of maths in senior school Head of modern languages Head of economics in senior school Head of chinese Leader of year 5 in junior school Leader of year 4 in junior school Too many key roles with new people in them for next year. Is there something wrong with DCB?
