Expat Advice: Relationships in Bangkok, Thailand
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
Bangkok
What is your current status? Are you single, dating, in a long-term relationship, married or divorced?
long-term relationship
What is it like in your country of residence for someone with your relationship status (married/divorced/dating)? If you're single, how do you meet other people? Do English-speaking people tend to gravitate to certain parts of your city?
Bangkok is becoming more open and a lot more single foreign females are comfotable here. One friend met up with another foreign guy online. I know a handful of foreign females with Thai guys. I think a lot of foreign guys get sick of the one dimensional aspects of their relationships with Thai girls, but at the same time the girls are very persistant, determined and try to offer value-added services. Their lack of security saddens me. As a foreign couple, we are having trouble - it is so hot. The abundance of eager and forward Thai girls is constantly annoying.
If you do not have children, do you generally spend your social time with other expat couples? If not, what else do you like to do as a couple?
Brunch with friends, mostly all foreign; movies, weekends away
What would be the best advice you could give someone with your relationship status that lives in your country of residence? Any other thoughts?
I would not recommend Bangkok as a destination except to single men who don't fit into their own culture and single women who are not really looking.
