Parent's Review of Saint Clare's College in Punta del Este, Uruguay

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Saint Clare's College

In what town or city is this school located?

Punta del Este

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Local

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Parent's automobiles.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Facilities are OK considering Uruguay is a 3rd world country. Building is relatively clean compared to others in Uruguay. In a scale of 1 to 10 most schools in Uruguay are a 3 based on the 5 schools we visited before settling on Saint Clare's College. Saint Clare's is a 4. (Do not confuse this school with Saint Clare's College in England)

Soccer, Soccer and more Soccer for boys. If you don't play soccer you're done. Hockey for girls - actually it is not too badly organized.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

This school has done absolutely nothing to help our child with the transition to Uruguay - curriculum-wise or in any other way. This is a school which prefersthat the student to adapt to them - if not, too bad, you have to leave. The administration of this school has expelled a number of students simply because the parents voice their concerns for their lack of discipline. No program for repatriation.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

No PTO no way!!! Parents opinions are not welcome or allowed. Teachers are not even allowed to have any interaction at all with parents - in or out of school. Only the Principal and his cronies can talk to parents. Teachers have been fired for simply talking to parents off site - the latest case was in a supermarket. Social activities are organized but the atmosphere is always extremely tense. It just isn't worth it - only the newbies go after the first few organized social ocasions.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

DON'T!!!!!!!! Punta del Este is a a little piece of heaven on earth. It is probably one of 4 or 5 true paradizes on earth. Saint Clare's College Punta del Este is intended to be a money machine. Really outstanding phenomenal marketing. But a horrible place to send your children to school. If you value your child's security and welfare and want them to have a good education, do not send him or her to this school.
