Parent's Review of Malacca Expatriate School (MES) in Malacca, Malaysia

Submitted by broadand

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Malacca Expatriate School (MES)

In what town or city is this school located?

Malacca

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Local

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Primary & Secondary

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

By car or taxi. Transport is not provided by the school and no reliable public bus service is available.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

There are extremely limited facilities. Extra-curricular activities offered consist of needlework classes (?!) and chook-ball, both of which are carried out at the school premises. There is no gymnasium and physical activities for the children are carried out in the tarmac car park with no adequate shelter. The children are exposed to the full heat of the sun (35c) and humidity up to 95% during their outdoor activities. The teachers are local and some of them are very good, but they are not supported by the school principals or management, whose only goal appears to be to make money from the parents, without regard to the opinions of the parents or the welfare of the students.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Absolutely nothing! There are no programs whatsoever in place to prepare the children for repatriation.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Non-existent! No parent-teacher organization exists at this school and there is no procedure in place for parents to provide feedback to the school or to register any complaint.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Don't put your children in this school! The principals will be very nice and sweet to you when you want to enroll your child in the school. But they do not want to hear from you once your child is enrolled! Any feedback or complaints (particularly complaints!) will not be addressed or tolerated in any way whatsoever. This school is only interested in taking your money, they have no real interest in the welfare or education of your children. Beware!
