Lençóis sits in the heart of Bahia's interior, where the Serrano Plateau rises abruptly from the surrounding scrubland and the light hits the landscape with an almost violent clarity. Trekking and cave exploration dominate the visitor economy, and the town has developed a modest infrastructure of pousadas, restaurants, and tour operators to support the steady stream of Brazilian and international travelers. The pace is slower than coastal cities, the air drier, and the sense of being in a frontier landscape—where nature still dominates human settlement—remains palpable even as tourism has modernized parts of town.
