Parioli
Parioli is an upscale residential neighborhood on Rome's north side, built largely in the early 20th century with tree-lined avenues and low-rise apartment buildings that rarely exceed six stories. The streets feel quieter and more orderly than central Rome—you'll see families with children, older professionals, and some expat residents who've chosen stability over tourist-zone chaos. Viale Parioli and Via Archimede are the main commercial arteries, lined with independent shops, trattorias, and pharmacies rather than chains. The neighborhood has a distinctly residential rhythm; it's where Romans actually live rather than perform for visitors. The Villa Borghese park sits just to the south, and the Tiber River curves along the western edge, though it's not immediately walkable from most streets.
