Weather: Egmond aan Zee has a cool maritime climate, with breezy conditions, mild summers, and winters that can feel raw when North Sea winds pick up. Rain can arrive at any time, and the weather often changes quickly along the coast.

A strip of North Sea sand, a lighthouse, and a village that seems to face the weather head-on: Egmond aan Zee has long been shaped by the sea more than by the land behind it. The settlement sits on the Dutch coast in North Holland, where dunes, beach access, and low-rise streets give it the feel of a place built around tides, wind, and weekend arrivals. It is one of the better-known seaside destinations in the Netherlands, and that identity shows in the rhythm of the town: summer visitors on the promenade, cyclists threading through the dunes, and a compact center that stays practical rather than grand. The beach is the main stage here, broad and open, with the North Sea changing color by the hour and the horizon doing most of the decorating. Egmond aan Zee also carries traces of its fishing past, though today it is better known for leisure than for boats coming in with the catch. The town’s scale is modest, which makes it easy to read in a single walk: a few streets of shops and cafés, residential blocks, holiday stays, and the constant presence of the coast just beyond. Nearby dune landscapes are part of the appeal, offering walking and cycling routes that feel close to nature without leaving the settled edge of town. It is not a place of dramatic monuments or dense urban life; its character comes from exposure, light, and the practical Dutch habit of living with the sea rather than pretending it is not there. For visitors, that means long beach days, brisk off-season air, and a straightforward seaside atmosphere. For residents, it means a small community with a strong seasonal pulse and a setting that is unmistakably coastal from the first glance.
