Al Ula is home to Madain Saleh, also known as Al-Hijr, a UNESCO World Heritage site that features well-preserved Nabatean tombs with elaborate facades cut out of the sandstone outcrops. The city serves as a gateway to this archaeological treasure, similar to Petra in Jordan. Al Ula's old town, with its mudbrick houses, is a testament to the traditional way of life that has been preserved over the centuries. The city is also known for its lush oasis, which contrasts with the surrounding desert and provides a haven for agriculture. In recent years, Al Ula has been the focus of extensive tourism development, aiming to attract visitors from around the world to its unique combination of natural beauty and historical significance. The city is becoming increasingly known for its art installations and cultural festivals, which are part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to diversify its economy and promote cultural tourism.
