Cordoba Advice

Hi... We're planning to come and live in Argentina for 6 months for the last leg our 18 months in South America. We had a couple of weeks in BA at the start, but coming from London and experiencing a big city didn't really float our boat, even though we loved the steaks!

A good stint in Florianopolis in Brazil living by the beach has suited us better with the scenic environment. It does put things in better perspective as on the whole it's fairly small here so a city would now be a nice change.

As such, we still want to experiance living in Argentina, and Cordoba sounds like it would have the elements we like, a scenic place with the lakes and evironment, but also with Argentina's second biggest city we can find some action! We're both just 30, so don't want to always rave all night, but also don't want to be in bed before midnight!

So, to our questions!

1. Do we have the right impression of Cordoba? Scenic and city in the same place? Do people go swim the lakes in the summer instead of a beach even?

2. We've heard of Mar del Plata, should we consider this, or is it more a tourist town? Do they compare?

3. Back to Cordoba... Are there many expats? It's always good to find people from home to be able to become friends with.

4. Which district to live in? We prefer a suburb, we're bringing a cat! Is there an ideal safe location that's well placed for a scenic area, but also easy access to some city action?

5. Is a 6 month rent lease acheivable? We're thinking to spend up to ARS 2500 per month for somewhere hopefully furnished, is that about right? Any links for websites we can look on?

Thanks in advance. Hopefully they'll be some expat Cordoba'ians out there with some knowledge on this that we can thank by buying you beer when we get there!

Cheers
Jim
