We are of retirement age. We are ready to exit USA. Trump, Costs, Crime. In that order, are the reasons. Even if Trump were removed, as he surely will be, we can't live in a country that is so confused. So, New Zealand bound we are, we love the natural beauty, the freedom, the plain speak of folk. Please let me know what should know when considering this move. Erika

You may have waited too late. The cutoff is 55 unless you can afford to buy in. NZ is not the easiest place to get residency and do not have a pensioner category like many countries.
I am a "Yank" and have lived here for 23 years.
Cheers Cliff

My wife and I are older. But we do have enough funds to purchase property and have funds that we could move to a NZ bank.
We would be interested in investment into the NZ economy, so would that make a difference in obtaining a residence visa?

We are also looking to move to New Zealand. Although we voted for Trump and expect him to win again. It would have been nice if all of the people who said they were leaving when he won had left. Then maybe the country would not be so divided.

We are nearing 50. Our professions are attorney (not useful there) and contractor/union carpenter. The contractor is on the list but how are contractors and carpenters viewed? We would sell everything we own and have a decent nest egg, but would need to work and keep busy. Is the move best for Americans in white collar jobs?

The government site has this info. It looked like $2,000,000 Was enough for an “investor” visa.

You would love Thailand which is much easier to secure a visa for retirement purposes if over 50. Visited NZ, took the train through the North country. Would love to split time there but not a millionaire. Thanks for being a pro American wanting to live abroad.

Nicely stated! Thank you from an American living in Thailand who voted for the best POTUS in history! Be sure and take the Kiwi Train from Auckland to Wellington! Love NZ.

Cliff, With the age and heavy investment requirements, is it still possible to live in the South Island a few months during the NZ snowboard season. American living in Thailand. Thank you.
