rent/food costs/Eng. rates/hr

Hope someone can help me sort this out: I'm hoping to move to Bratislava soon to live for four years. Have a work visa, but I'm working for a few months on the content of an interactive creative website (unpaid until the project is done).

I have a small monthly income and savings but need to budget reasonably. I have read that living on 1300 Euro is difficult. I also read on this site that private English lessons are from 50 to 100 PLN (2007). That sounds crazy. I am finding loads of misinformation on the web.

I know how to live on a careful budget but don't want to suffer.

I would be very greatfull to hear what the average Polish person spends on food (not including restaurants), and rent not too far from the center. I have a son who will attend the expensive international school. I don't need a luxury apartment. The numbers I've read on some web sites just don't seem right.

Huge thanks to anyone with suggestions of a place to rent and cost of living on a modest income.
