Psychiatrist in Granada?

Post New Topic

I'm planning to move to Granada, Nicaragua in August. I live in California at the moment.
There is only one glitch: I need the constant care and treatment of a Psychiatrist and medications. Can I find a Psychiatrist in Granada? If so, can someone recommend one, or a resource where I may find one?

Many thanks.

Hi,
Probably no chance of finding a psychiatrist in granada. I'm in a similar situation. Did you find anything? How did you do it?

Greetings,

Simon

There is a hospital, Vivan Pellas, outside Managua that would be a good place to start looking. Their staff usually speaks English and they have a staff person who helps expats. I think you can find them if you google it. They charge gringo prices, be prepared.

If you need specific meds, make sure you understand about how they are handled in Nicaragua. It is very different here, legality and availability are not a given.

You can also try facebook. There are many Nica pages and it is usually a good place to connect on very specific issues.

My wife has an excellent psychiatrist who lives in Jinotepe & works at a hospital in Granada. Dra Ninoska Salazar, cel 8846-1013. Tell her Norma recommended her.

Try the local women's center. They have shrinks and could probably refer you to a local private one.

Unless you both speak the same language fluently I think you are in trouble.
Nic medicine tends not to just prescribe medicines without seeking out the root cause of illness, but watch your six anyway.

It is hard to believe you would ask this question if you were a professional MD/Psychiatrist. You would know that to legally practice you would need licensing here, an that is a whole level of information you would find professionally, not online in social media. This mae me suspicious of you. Second, you would know in a socialist country, there is little chance to build a practice without making great financial sacrifices anywhere close to an N. American salary level. You would also know there is a very limited number of gringos here, most on fixed incomes and few who would seek such services. Something is fishy about you. I have my PhD in Psychiatric Research and other interests, but as a retiree and enjoy not treating clients or teaching any more, I posted earlier for your services; expect free drinks. Professionally here, don't expect much more. In Costa Rica, there are many more, fake, troubled, gringos you might feel more at home with.
