In Praise of the North

Most Expats who come to Nicaragua wind up in one of a half dozen places: Granada, SJdS, Leon, Masaya (or thereabouts), Matagalpa, Jinotega, or EstelĂ.

...............

The latter three are "north" . These lack the intense Gringo interaction of those in the "south", but I suggest that they offer some advantages.

..........

1st, they are notably safer, with far less crime; 2nd, they are less expensive, with both rentals and property purchases significantly less money; and finally, there is a lot of authentic Nicaragua close at hand.

..................

All of the cities mentioned above are also less cooler than the south.

..............

I get it,, if you want the beach, or an ocean view, then nothing less will do. Likewise, if you prefer the vibrancy of Granada or Leon,, then you will be bored in the north. We have much less of that.

...............

It is a quieter life style in the north,, perfect for someone who wants to garden, enjoy less congestion and traffic, and be a little closer to the Nicaraguan culture and people.

.................

You can still visit,, I make regular trips to Granada, Leon,, Managua,, Managua to PriceSmart :) (when I'm there,, I'm stuck in Tucson due to COVID annoyance). I prefer the beaches around Masatepe, or, even the north.
