Renewing residency is kind of a PITA......Every government treats its citizens badly, because they can.....They treat non-citizens better......But what are the pros & cons of NI citizenship, please?.....H2O 212F

I don't know about NI citizenship but I became a Panamanian citizen in 2013, It gives me certain advantages. I am not aware of any disadvantages. I have always liked Nicaragua but I ended up in Panama and have a property here in Panama. I am near the border with Costa Rica so Nicaragua is not that far away. I was in Nicaragua a little over a year ago just before the epidemic started. I entered with a Panamanian passport and didn't have any trouble. As compared to Costa Rica prices in Nicaragua are very reasonable. The only concern is the government and the question of whether or not the next election will bring new protests. Hopefully everything will be peaceful.

Handy to have two passports in these unsettled times Nicaragua just has to get past the Ortegas, not that many more years. The US ??? Who knows what is going on there.

The only person I actually know who did it was the proprietor of NicaLiving,, Phil. Ironically, he now lives in Guatemala on Lake Atitlan.

My understanding is,,, you DO NOT have to give up your US citizenship. My Godchild Sebastian has both Nica and US citizenship.

It would seem to simplify things, no residency renewal every 5 years,, etc.

The Nica citizenship process is fairly involved...have to be here for 4 years and do some tests on the laws, etc. Say it takes 2 years.

No prohibition on two citazenships from USA...might be from Nica, which some documents say you need to renounce your USA passport.

Have to pay tax in both countries and subject to laws of both, even when in the other.

Not sure of the advantages? You can have a business with a residency...need to specify that when you apply. You can own property. Once every 5 years for renewal does not seem to burdensome...in the past after two five year renewals your residency became permanent. not sure if that applies today.
