Dream home visa

Post New Topic Oldest First

Hi all, we were wondering if anybody has had experience of dream home visa.
We're not sure what the immigration dept do about a gap between when the 30 day tourist visa expires, and the dream home visa is granted.
I understand it takes about 2 weeks to get dream home visa set up.
We have been delayed by the current situation in Sri Lanka.
Please do not respond with offers to get visa easy way. We have everything in place.
Thank you

Hi, good afternoon.
We have been to renew our MDH visa today.

The process went smoothly 1 & 1/2 hours from arrival to departure.

We would always be looking to do things like this, & not employ an agent.

The process is pretty easy, the requirements are laid out online, as long as you follow the instructions you shouldn't have any problems.

Before you leave your country you need to get some things in place anyway.

The process for quarantine has changed overnight, depending on your vaccination status.

So, with this in mind I would hold back on make too many arrangements for the time being.

Hope this info helps

Update 2: The fees (additional above the government fees) are quoted to me as 35,000 Rs. It is high but I think worth it especially in the given environment, to avoid an in-person visit to the immigration office.

Update: Immigration Services Centre (commerical firm, not government agency) tells me that Retirement Visas are being processed these days. They advise to come on a tourist visa. Once I am out of quarantine, then I can deliver the application to them, and they will take care of it. It sounds good -what could go wrong, yes? I am planning a 10-day tour of the approved tourist attractions because this seems like a once in a lifetime chance to see them when it is not crowded. Plus I will contribute my dollars into the Sri Lankan economy - that is a good thing. After the tour, I will be out of quarantine and deliver my application (and as yet unspeficied fees) to the service. Then I go back into a self-quarantine before arriving at my final destination. Fingers crossed that this will actually go something like the plan.

I am also looking at using a professional service to assist with my MDH application. I am investigating now (April 2021) so perhaps I will have info to report here as the process proceeds. The service at

https://www.immigrationlanka.com/

is responding to my requests via email, so that is a positive sign.

Dear AndreV8,

Much thanks for the onsite insight .

You applied for MDH visa through an agency ?

Price wise , what 4WD SUV or twin cabin vehicle would you recommend to explore driving Sri Lanka : i was thinking of Mahendra XUV 500 AT diesel ?

Planning reconnaisance visit in May 2021.

Thank you again and best regards .

Good morning,
Sounds great. You'll love it.
We did our own Visa application, so can't recommend either company. Just be careful, a lot of people will try to 'assist' you. They will smile beautifully, but not bat an eyelid as they rob you blind.
As to recommendations of where yo settle. The only recommendation is to spend time travelling around before you commit. Some places just will feel right for you. Have a look on lankapropertyweb for houses to rent, to give you some idea what to expect.
Away from Colombo things are a little more basic, and less English is spoken.
Good luck with everything.
Fingers crossed the visa changes will be in your favour.
Always happy to help.

Thanks Lallylinda for prompt and kind assistance .

Wife and i are vegetarians & retiring professionals ,most likely going for MDH visa , planning to rent small 2 bedroom villa with small garden , preferring quiet cooler surburb/hills ( rather then touristy sunny seaside ) : thinking of Kandy but will miss cosmopolitan convenience of Colombo .Any suggestions on where to live ?

Also planning to use professional services of either the following 2 for MDH visa :

http://www.immigrationlanka.com/Home-0.html

http://www.lankavisa.lk/

Any experience with their services or other recommendations ?

Good Morning.
In answer to your questions regarding MDH visa.
It is multi entry, and there is no requirement for minimum stay.
However, due to the covid 19 situation the immigration & tourist departments are reviewing visa issuance.
We are awaiting new details of requirements for application.
I expect before you apply in 2022 new types of visa will be in place.
Hope this helps,
Can't be more certain, as it's a situation in flux at the moment.
Happy travels, when you do come. It's beautiful.

To Lallylinda or Beachwalker12.

The MDH visa is multiple entries ?
And is there minimum residency duration required per year or during the 2 year visa?

Thanks and regards ,

Right now the situation is confusing. Calling /emailing Immigration was always useless. They don't answer.
However, they do know what your visa limit is on that tourist visa and they can grant you the MDH visa in one go if you have your cash to pay the tax, passports, snaps and a glue stick. The back office staff is incredible there (the ladies) . The Commissioner man is a jerk and gives every single person that enters his office a hard time. He enjoys yelling " you go back to your country" for what ever he is demanding. The best way to handle him is not to speak except in brief answers.
The lady Commissioner is great. If you go to get business done,,,GO EARLY. Be polite.
Best of Luck. Enjoy the Golden Island.
