What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Aviemore?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Aviemore about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Scotland. The National Health Service (NHS) provides free healthcare, including maternity services, to all UK residents. You should register with a local GP (General Practitioner) as soon as possible, who can then refer you to a midwife or obstetrician. Secondly, consider where you want to give birth. Aviemore is a small town, so you may need to travel to a larger city like Inverness for hospital births. Home births and birthing centers are also options, depending on your health and preferences. Thirdly, make sure you understand your rights and entitlements. In Scotland, pregnant employees have the right to paid time off for antenatal care and can take up to 52 weeks of maternity leave. Fourthly, it's a good idea to connect with other expats or local parents. They can provide invaluable advice and support, and may be able to recommend baby-related services or products. Lastly, remember to enjoy this special time. Aviemore is a beautiful place with a strong sense of community, and it's a wonderful place to start a family," said another expat in Aviemore, Scotland.
