What advice do you have for expats having a baby in All Saints?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in All Saints about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Antigua & Barbuda. The country has a mix of public and private healthcare facilities, and while the standard of care is generally good, it may not be as comprehensive as in your home country. Ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care and childbirth. Check if your policy covers newborn care as well. Find a good obstetrician and pediatrician. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or from your embassy or consulate. Understand the local customs and practices around pregnancy and childbirth. In Antigua & Barbuda, it's common for women to give birth in a hospital, but home births are also an option. Learn about the process of registering the birth and obtaining a birth certificate for your baby. This is crucial for establishing your child's citizenship and identity. Consider hiring a doula or midwife to support you during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide emotional support, help you understand your options, and advocate for you during labor and delivery. If you're planning to return to work after having your baby, look into childcare options early. There may be a waiting list for daycare centers or nannies. Finally, connect with other expat parents in All Saints. They can provide invaluable advice, support, and friendship during this exciting time in your life," wrote a member who made the move to All Saints, Antigua & Barbuda.
