What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Sanremo?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Sanremo about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Italian healthcare system. Italy has a high standard of healthcare and pregnant women are entitled to free healthcare services, including prenatal check-ups, tests, and childbirth. Secondly, you should learn some basic Italian medical terms or consider hiring a translator for your doctor's appointments. While many doctors in Italy do speak English, not all medical staff may be fluent. Thirdly, you should research and choose a hospital or birthing center in Sanremo that suits your needs and preferences. Some expats prefer private hospitals for their comfort and high standard of care. Fourthly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help bridge any language or cultural gaps. Fifthly, make sure to understand the maternity leave policies in Italy. If you are working in Italy, you are entitled to maternity leave benefits. Lastly, connect with other expats who have had babies in Italy. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend specific doctors, midwives, or hospitals in Sanremo," wrote a member who made the move to Sanremo, Italy.
