What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Queenstown?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Queenstown about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Singapore. The country has a high standard of healthcare and many doctors and nurses speak English. Secondly, consider whether you want to give birth in a public or private hospital. Public hospitals are cheaper but may not offer the same level of comfort and privacy as private ones. Thirdly, make sure you have adequate health insurance that covers maternity costs. Healthcare in Singapore can be expensive, especially for non-residents. Fourthly, start looking for a good obstetrician or gynaecologist early on. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or do your own research online. Fifthly, consider taking prenatal classes. These can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and are also a great way to meet other expectant parents. Sixthly, if you're planning to work while pregnant, be aware of your rights. Singapore has laws in place to protect the rights of pregnant employees. Lastly, after the baby is born, you'll need to register the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate to ensure your child's citizenship rights. Remember, having a baby in a foreign country can be a challenging experience, but with the right preparation and support, it can also be a very rewarding one," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Queenstown, Singapore.
