What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Vung Tau?

Answer this Question

We asked people in Vung Tau if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"In Vung Tau, it's important to avoid public displays of affection, as it's considered inappropriate and disrespectful. It's also considered rude to touch someone's head or point with your finger, as the head is considered sacred and pointing is seen as aggressive. When visiting temples or other religious sites, make sure to dress modestly and remove your shoes before entering. Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics, the Vietnam War, or criticism of the Vietnamese government. It's also considered impolite to refuse food or drink when offered by a host. When eating, never stick your chopsticks upright in a bowl of rice, as this is associated with death. Lastly, always remember to negotiate prices when shopping in local markets, but do so respectfully and without aggression," wrote a member who made the move to Vung Tau, Vietnam.
