"Expats in Bordeaux often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and the local dialect can be difficult to understand. The French bureaucracy can also be a challenge, with complex procedures and paperwork for even simple tasks. The slower pace of life can be a shock for those used to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. Additionally, the French emphasis on formality and etiquette, particularly in social situations, can be difficult to navigate for newcomers. Lastly, the late dining times and long meals, which are a staple of French culture, can be hard to adjust to for those from cultures with different eating habits," said a member in Bordeaux, France.
