What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Ajijic. They wrote...

"Expats in Ajijic often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and communication can be difficult. The slower pace of life, known as "Mexican time", can also be a challenge for those used to a more fast-paced lifestyle. Some expats may struggle with the local customs and traditions, which can be very different from their own. The bureaucracy and paperwork involved in things like obtaining residency or buying property can also be a challenge. Lastly, adjusting to the local cuisine, which can be quite spicy and different from what they're used to, can also be a challenge for some expats," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Ajijic, Mexico.
