What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Khemisset. They wrote...
"One new challenge was adapting from American culture where women can easily go most anywhere unaccompanied without a thought about it. And, no one sees that as strange. But, in a smaller city such as Khemisset, women travel in family groups with other female relatives, or with male relatives, or with their children and its not common for a woman to walk the streets, or travel by oneself. In my family, most of the daily shopping for food, etc., is done by men. It actually takes a lot of the burden of running the household off the women," explained one expat living in Khemisset, Morocco.

"One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture for expats in Khemisset is the language barrier. Many locals speak only Arabic or Berber, and it can be difficult for expats to communicate with them. Additionally, the local customs and traditions can be quite different from those of other countries, and expats may find it difficult to adjust to the new culture. Furthermore, the local cuisine can be quite different from what expats are used to, and it can take some time to get used to the flavors and ingredients. Finally, the climate in Khemisset can be quite extreme, with hot summers and cold winters, and expats may find it difficult to adjust to the changing temperatures," said another expat in Khemisset, Morocco.
