"Expats in Al Lith often find the strict adherence to Islamic laws and customs challenging, especially if they come from more liberal cultures. The segregation of genders in public spaces, the requirement for women to wear an abaya, and the prohibition of alcohol can be difficult to adjust to. The extreme heat during summer months can also be a challenge for those not accustomed to such climates. The language barrier can also be a significant challenge, as Arabic is the primary language spoken and not everyone may speak English. Additionally, the slower pace of life and the different working hours, which are influenced by prayer times, can be difficult to adapt to. Lastly, the restrictions on entertainment and social activities, due to conservative cultural norms, can also be challenging for expats," commented one expat who made the move to Al Lith, Saudi Arabia.
