Will I save money living in Ambergris Caye?

Answer this Question

We asked expats if they save money living in Ambergris Caye. They said...

"The cost of living in Ambergris Caye is generally lower than in many parts of the United States. This is particularly true when it comes to housing and property prices, which are significantly cheaper in Belize. Groceries can be less expensive as well, especially if you buy local products. Dining out and entertainment costs are also typically lower. However, some imported goods, such as electronics or certain food items, can be more expensive due to import taxes. Healthcare is generally cheaper, but it's important to note that the standard of care may not be as high as in the U.S. Utilities such as electricity and internet can be more expensive in Belize than in the U.S. due to the country's remote location and infrastructure. In terms of transportation, owning a car can be costly due to high import duties on vehicles, but many residents get around this by using golf carts, bicycles, or public transportation, which are all more affordable options. So, while there are some costs that may be higher in Belize, overall, you are likely to find that living in Ambergris Caye is cheaper than living in many parts of the United States," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Ambergris Caye, Belize.
