What are healthcare services like in Arima?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Arima. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago are provided by both public and private entities. The public healthcare system is accessible to all residents and is funded by the government. It includes primary, secondary, and tertiary care facilities. The Arima Health Facility is one of the main healthcare providers in the area, offering a range of services including general practice, dental care, mental health services, and emergency care. Private healthcare services are also available, often providing a higher standard of care with shorter waiting times. These services, however, are more expensive and may not be affordable for all residents. Pharmacies are widely available throughout Arima, providing prescription and over-the-counter medications. There are also several specialized clinics and health centers that offer services such as physiotherapy, optometry, and maternity care. Despite these services, Arima, like the rest of Trinidad and Tobago, faces challenges in its healthcare sector. These include a shortage of healthcare professionals, long waiting times in public hospitals, and a high prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Efforts are being made to improve the healthcare system, with investments in infrastructure, training of healthcare professionals, and public health initiatives aimed at preventing and managing chronic diseases," remarked another expat in Arima, Trinidad & Tobago.
