Doctors and medical staff are well-trained, and many speak English, making communication easier for tourists. The healthcare system in Croatia is based on a universal health care model, with residents required to pay into a health insurance fund. For non-residents, travel insurance is highly recommended as it will cover the cost of any medical treatment needed. Private healthcare is also available in Dubrovnik, offering a higher standard of comfort and efficiency, but at a higher cost. "Medical care is well organised with English speaking doctors all around. The big cities have quality hospitals, the smaller towns have at least a first aid.
