What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Dubrovnik. They wrote...

"Expats in Dubrovik, Croatia often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Croatian is a difficult language to learn and not everyone speaks English. They also struggle with the slower pace of life, which can be frustrating when trying to get things done quickly. The bureaucracy can be quite complex and time-consuming, which can be particularly challenging for those who are used to more efficient systems. Additionally, some expats find it difficult to integrate into the local community, as Croatians can be reserved and it can take time to build relationships. The cost of living in Dubrovnik is also higher compared to other parts of Croatia, which can be a challenge for expats on a budget. Lastly, the intense summer tourism can be overwhelming for those who are not used to living in a tourist hotspot," remarked another expat in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
