What are healthcare services like in Santa Tecla?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Santa Tecla. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Santa Tecla are a mix of public and private providers. The public healthcare system, administered by the Ministry of Health, offers free services to all citizens, but it is often characterized by long wait times and limited resources. On the other hand, private healthcare facilities, which are more expensive, provide a higher standard of care with more advanced equipment and shorter wait times. Many of these private facilities have doctors who speak English and have been trained abroad. Pharmacies are widely available throughout the city, and many medications can be purchased without a prescription. However, it is recommended for visitors to have travel health insurance as the cost of private healthcare can be high. Despite these challenges, the healthcare system in Santa Tecla is continuously improving, with the government investing in new hospitals and training for medical staff," said another expat in Santa Tecla, El Salvador.
