What are healthcare services like in Roatan?
We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Roatan. They wrote...
"Healthcare services in Roatan are relatively basic, with a few clinics and hospitals available for residents and tourists. The island has a public hospital, which offers a range of services but may not be equipped to handle more serious or complex medical conditions. There are also private clinics that provide a higher standard of care, with some even offering specialized services. However, these private facilities can be quite expensive. For serious medical emergencies or complex procedures, patients are often transported to the mainland or even to another country. It's also important to note that while some healthcare providers may speak English, many only speak Spanish. Pharmacies are widely available and can provide a range of medications, but some specific or specialized drugs may not be readily available. It is recommended for visitors to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation," remarked another expat who made the move to Roatan, Honduras.
