What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?
When we asked what advice they have for others considering retiring abroad, they advised...
"Start small. Don't invest too much money before you get a feel for the new country. Consider renting a home in the area to test it out before making any major decisions. Research the taxes and costs of living thoroughly, as these can vary depending on the country. Be sure to look into residence and work permits, as well as any currency exchange and banking regulations. Prioritize your needs and check out the amenities available in the area to make sure it suits you. Make sure to plan for health insurance - many countries require a coverage plan as a condition of residency. Don't forget to factor in possible trips back home - having a sturdy plan for financing these visits should be a priority. Finally, take the time to familiarize yourself with the local language and culture, as doing so will make settling into your new home much easier," said a member in Prague, Czech Rep.
