"Yes, as a foreigner living in Bordeaux, you will have access to public healthcare. France has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. The public healthcare system, known as Assurance Maladie, is funded by the government through taxes and covers a large portion of healthcare costs for residents. As a foreigner, you can access this system if you are a legal resident and have lived in France for at least three months. You will need to apply for a French social security number, which will allow you to access healthcare services. The healthcare services in Bordeaux, like the rest of France, are of high quality. There are numerous hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies throughout the city. Doctors and medical staff are well-trained and many speak English. The public healthcare system covers a wide range of services, including doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription medications, maternity care, and mental health services. However, it does not cover 100% of the costs. Most residents also have a private health insurance, known as a "mutuelle", to cover the remaining costs. Emergency care is available to everyone in France, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. If you have a medical emergency, you can go to the nearest hospital's emergency department.
