As a foreigner living in Tela, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Tela if they have access to public healthcare in Tela. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Tela, you will have access to public healthcare, but it's important to note that the quality and availability of services can vary. The public healthcare system in Honduras is generally underfunded and understaffed, which can lead to long wait times and limited availability of certain treatments. Hospitals and clinics in larger cities tend to be better equipped than those in rural areas. However, even in cities, the quality of care can be inconsistent. Many expatriates and wealthier Hondurans choose to use private healthcare services, which are more expensive but generally offer a higher standard of care. It's also worth noting that not all medical staff may speak English, so it could be beneficial to learn some basic Spanish medical terms. It's highly recommended for foreigners to have comprehensive health insurance that can cover the cost of private treatment or medical evacuation if necessary," remarked another expat who made the move to Tela, Honduras.
